About the Position: Work is at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Primary duties are throughout the hospital in patient care areas, storage areas, warehouses, loading docks, and in administrative office settings. Work hours are regular first shift. Shifts may rotate as necessary with sufficient advanced notice, with potential for over-time and on-call work. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE SOLICITATION

Duties

Make minor repairs. Perform preventative maintenance. Use power and hand tools common to the trade. Assist higher graded worker performing duties common to the trade. Clean out traps and auxiliary equipment

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• The incumbent may be required to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• Employees assigned to this position may be designated as Mission Essential and assume Essential Personnel status during inclement weather/emergencies.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Worker ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform some cement work to remove damaged areas, apply spackle, install and remove mounting brackets to stud walls; mount soap, paper towel, and hand sanitizer dispensers. Apply fire caulking to wall penetrations. Demount and remove televisions and monitors from wall mount brackets, remove brackets, and relocate and remount to walls in other locations. Relocate and distribute traffic control and parking signage. Hanging and relocating pictures. Deinstalling partition and cubicle furniture and relocating and reinstalling/reassembling. Assisting in the loading of statues, planters, and other visual art and decorations. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effect: Uses moderate physical effort to stack, load, unload, move and carry tools, equipment and materials ranging in weight from 10 lbs to 50 lbs unassisted. Occasionally lifts heavier objects with assistance (e.g., using a hand truck). Required to reach, walk, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally works in cramped quarters, or from ladders, scaffolds or platforms. Working Condition: Work is performed inside and outside in all types of weather (e.g., heat, cold, rain, wind, etc.) and usually in a dirty, dusty and/or greasy environment. Incumbent is exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shocks, burns, cuts bruises, maimed fingers and scrapes. Occasionally is required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
