About the Position: This position is located at Leader Development and Education Dean of Academics, Combined Army Research Library, Fort Leavenworth, KS. NOTE: This is a developmental position and may be filled at either the GS-07 or GS-09 grade level. If filled at the lower grade, the incumbent may be promoted noncompetitively upon completion of experience and time-in-grade requirements at the supervisor's request/discretion.

Duties

Duties/responsibilities for the GS-7 level are the same as the full performance level but are performed under more closely supervised conditions. This list is not all-inclusive: Responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of the archival collections. Monitor environmental conditions in the archive area. Prepare inventories and descriptive analyses of archival materials. Responsible for disaster/emergency contingency planning for the preservation of the collection. Work in conjunction with the CARL digitization team to select which holdings are chosen for digitization for the purposes of preservation and dissemination. Prepare monthly and special reports as needed.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Secret security clearance.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work nights and/or weekends.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work overtime.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical and annual physicals after appointment.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of up to 45 pounds.
  • This position may require temporary duty (TDY) for up to 5% of the time.

Individual Occupational Requirements: The Librarian occupation has specific educational requirements which apply to all positions: Completion of one (1) full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. (NOTE: You MUST submit ALL your transcripts.) -OR- A total of at least five (5) years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. (NOTE: You MUST submit ALL your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification and/or education requirements listed below: For the GS-7 level: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience coordinating collection inventory and providing instructional services/assistance to patrons. For the GS-9 level: Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes experience recommending and coordinating collection inventory, overseeing/developing strategies for collection development/maintenance, and providing instructional services to patrons. -OR- Education Substitution: Successful completion of a master's degree in library science or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. (NOTE: You MUST submit ALL your transcripts.) -OR- Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. Time in Grade Requirement for GS-9: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
