About the Position: Serves as the Assistant Librarian of the Ike Skelton Combined arms Research Library (CARL), with responsibility for daily library functions. The CARL is the largest and most important research library in the United States Arms. It is the general library for Fort Leavenworth that has a collection of over 2,000,000 books and other material and supports a large graduate school population.

Duties

As a Supervisory Librarian, you will perform the following duties which is not an all-inclusive list: Coordinate and oversee daily Library operations exercising Library-wide program management authority. Provide oversight and guidance of the library public service function including updating, improving, and coordinating policies and procedures across sections. Provide oversight and guidance for the library?s technical services including acquisition, cataloging, and systems. Provide oversight and guidance to the library?s preservation and digitization program. Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the staff, set goals and objectives, and analyzes and resolves problems. Lead library-wide initiatives on assessment, benchmarking, and accreditation that promote continuous improvement in academic library operations. Oversee mission and mission support projects, taskings, action and programs received/assigned by Leadership.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY), approximately 5% of the time.
  • Nights and Weekends may be required.
  • May be required to complete a one year supervisory probation, unless previously completed.

OR Applicants must possess a total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. This education, training, and experience must provide a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. AND Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: Work which includes organizing, managing, and budgeting for the library program, facilities, and operations promoting perpetual access to information resources, including planning for preservation and migrating of legacy information archives and digital repositories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementLeadershipOral CommunicationProduct EvaluationWritten Communication Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
