This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. DeBakey VA Medical Center (MEDVAMC), a Complexity Level la Facility that provides extensive primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and community settings. MEDVAMC, a multisite medical system, includes a very large medical facility in Houston, Texas, and eleven Community-Based Outpatient Clinics. MEDVAMC is an academic medical facility with significant teaching and research programs across its inpatient and outpatient services. Supervisory Duties: Maintains supervisory responsibility for the designated portion of the BHIP section of the MHCL Care Coordination Program. Develops and maintains high-quality Mental Health teams while meeting all Environment of Care and programmatic requirements. Works cooperatively with the MHCL Care Coordination Program leadership colleagues, other Mental Health leadership, and other services across MEDVAMC. Serving as mentors, including new employee orientation, if privileged to perform and as assigned Providing LCSW supervision, if privileged to perform and as assigned - Participating in data collection and practice standardization activities Oversees compliance with and successful execution of Mental Health Performance Measures, SAIL, workload, VERA capture, Veteran satisfaction, and quality assurance. Utilizes the service recovery model with veterans who express dissatisfaction or concerns regarding their mental health care As requested, provides consultation for all mental health clinicians regarding clinical care or complex cases. Will have established guidelines and performance expectations for staff clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system. Develops functional statements and performance standards. Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Identifies training needs of employee and arranges training as appropriate. Works to resolve informal complaints and grievances; develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Provides advice and counsel to staff regarding work and administrative matters. Invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area. Recommends promotion or reassignment of staff. Clinical Responsibilities: Independently provides biopsychosocial assessment, evaluation, and diagnostic services for Veterans with a broad range or psychopathology receiving care within the clinic setting. Providing sufficient clinical care for competency assessment, peer review, and credentialing and privileging processes Participation in a peer review and competency assessment process, as assigned Demonstrates expertise in using and teaching others about contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for these disorders. Provides education to both patients and family members regarding relevant mental health concerns. Provides comprehensive, evidence-based, psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy, and psychoeducation. Provides consultation to health care providers about assessment findings and treatment plan for patients to ensure health care is coordinated, collaborative, and integrated within the healthcare system. Complies with all MEDVAMC and MHCL documentation requirements, including timely completion of prescribed templates for documenting results of assessment, treatment, and risk evaluation contacts. Adheres to all MEDVAMC and MHCL policies and practices for delivering clinical care, including but not limited to suicide risk reduction practices, timeliness of care and access standards, professional conduct requirements, and CPRS documentation conventions. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Supervisory Social Worker, GS-12. Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS 11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as Supervisory Social Workers must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to meeting the experience requirements for this grade level, the candidate must fully demonstrate the following KSAs: (a) Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines. (b) Knowledge of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement. (c) Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services. (d) Ability to provide staff training and development. (e) Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with e consultation, employees, team leaders, and managers. Preferred Experience: Mental Health Experience, including evaluation and treatment planning; supervisory experience; experience creating policies and Standard Operating Procedures. Experience with program evaluation and improvement; verbal de-escalation skills, and crisis management skills. Strong computer skills, ability to multitask and organize work; ability to work with an interdisciplinary team, including nursing; and work autonomously.
