The Chief Pharmacist position is located at the Uintah & Ouray Service Unit (U&O) in Fort Duchesne, UT. The incumbent is responsible for the provision of high quality pharmaceutical care that meets national professional standards. The position serves as a manager of the pharmacy department and reports to the Clinical Services Medical Officer.
Duties
Formulates and implements overall pharmacy program and plans to satisfy patient load requirements, priorities for services and other health care objectives.
Determines staff duties and resource allocation, make workload adjustments for workload. Makes changes in assignment of tasks for staff positions to improve workflow, service delivery, promote health care services and increase productivity. Continuously reviews and evaluates operations and services to patients while proposing and implementing improvement changes.
Establishes overall work schedule and determines individual or group work assignments. Collaborates with other department supervisors to negotiate, make decisions and coordinate working relationships.
Function as a primary care specialist using established standards of care to provide primary care to patients with stable chronic conditions who require medication and to patients with acute self-limiting illnesses.
Through dispensing, distributing and preparing medication, the incumbent assures pharmaceutical products are available and accessible that conforms to standards of quality for potency, purity and efficacy at the time administered or used by the patient.
Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (APCE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
LICENSURE REQUIREMENT: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic and Licensure Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications for the GS-13 Grade Level stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS for the GS-13 Grade Level:
Posses (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 Grade Level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Performing administrative, consultative, or staff advisory work for a medical facility's pharmacy program. Experience in maintaining a system of internal reviews that ensure the pharmacy programs are compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements (i.e., The Joint Commission, FDA, DEA, IHS, OIG, ASHP, CMS). Provides patient education and consultation on proper use of medications, cautions regarding side effects, and proper storage.
