Duties

You will serve as a Supervisory Police Officer (Desk Sergeant), responsible to the Supervisory Police Officer (Watch Commander), Law Enforcement Division under the Directorate of Emergency Services (DES). You will review journals, blotters, critical information reports, serious incident reports and other correspondence as necessary and disseminate them as required by standard operating procedures and regulatory requirements. You will maintain communication with mobile patrol units, access control points, passes directions and information to Police Officers. You will coordinate emergency responses between internal and external agency assets and personnel and receives and acts on calls concerning reports of violations or complaints. You will ensure all regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to the placement of personnel in detention cells are in compliance before an individual is placed in a cell.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy or graduate within a one year of hire date, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
  • Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct.
  • Incumbent will be required to initially pass the Record Primary Physical Agility Test (PAT) within the first 30 days of the hiring date, and must pass the PAT annually thereafter.
  • Alternate PAT events are designated for current career employees who are in the post-academy career phase rather than new hires. New hires are required to pass the primary PAT as described above.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
  • The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 DTM 17-004). Incumbents are not subject to administrative dismissal in emergencies created by inclement weather conditions or other emergency situations as appropriate.
  • A Mission Essential employee is required to report for, or remain at, work in emergency situations, and dismissal or closure announcements do not apply to him/her unless his/her supervisor instructs otherwise.
  • Incumbent must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 Secret background investigation.
  • Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
  • Position is designated as a “Key Position” in accordance with AR 690-8. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively.
  • Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.
  • The Omnibus Federal Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2001 (Public Law 106-554) includes a provision that imposes requirements on federal agencies, including DoD installations, that employ law enforcement officers.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsPublic Safety and SecurityTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
