This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties
You will conduct investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons committing crimes against persons and property.
You will coordinate with civil and military agencies involving jurisdictional authority, exchange of information, and similar problems and considerations.
You will serve as Point of Contact (POC) for civil law enforcement agencies required to serve due process to military and civilian personnel on the installation.
You will Initiate Police Reports for the arrest of a service member by civil law enforcement authorities for the edification of the command.
You will be responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence obtained during investigations, raids, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduated from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved waiver/exemption or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Successfully graduated from the USAMPS Military Police Investigator Course.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
- Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
- Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
- Incumbent will be required to initially pass the Record Primary Physical Agility Test (PAT) within the first 30 days of the hiring date and must pass the PAT annually thereafter.
- Incumbent must wear the Department of the Army Civilian Police (DACP) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
- Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator's license.
- Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Position is designated as a "Key Position" IAW AR 690-8. This position shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the agency to function effectively.
- NOTE: Federal law requires removal of federal law enforcement officers convicted of felonies.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Conducting investigations into alleged or suspected violations of criminal laws and military regulations in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies; 2) Responding to crime scenes to collect and preserve evidence; and 3) Preparing case records to include investigation findings and recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted
