This position serves as an Engineering Equipment Operator in Lakeview, OR.
This is a permanent Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. Selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions.
Duties
The incumbent serves as an Equipment Operator in the Lakeview District. The primary purpose of this position is to operate a variety of gasoline and/or diesel-powered engineering and construction heavy equipment, performing a multitude of tasks in all types of terrain and environments. The incumbent is supervised by the Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor and works as part of a team to perform maintenance work on roads, campgrounds, and recreational sites as well as Range projects when needed. On occasions, the Incumbent will be expected to work on their own with limited supervision and respond to unforeseen circumstances and work underway. The incumbent is required to operate commercial vehicles and must possess and maintain a valid state class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate special endorsements to perform the work of the position.
Requirements

Qualifications
There is no required length of time of qualifying experience or training. However, your resume must demonstrate enough experience to support the SCREEN-OUT Element of: Your ability to perform the duties of a Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Examples of such experience include: (1) operating gasoline or diesel powered equipment such as road graders, bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, or trench diggers in all terrain environments; (2) maintaining and/or repairing roads, ditches, shoulders, or road beds; (3) conducting equipment and/or motor vehicle routine/minor preventive maintenance, repairs, and/or safety inspections.

Additional SCREEN-OUT Element: his position performs operation of a variety of motor vehicles such as light and heavy duty pickup trucks, vans, dump trucks, flatbeds, water tanker trucks, semis, lowboys, etc. to transport earth, sand, stone, water, equipment, supplies, and people. Vehicles may weigh in excess of 32,000 pounds and a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required. This license must be obtained prior to entry on duty. Candidates who do not meet this requirement will receive no further consideration for this position.

Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly climbing in and out of different machines, and pushing and pulling levers continuously while machine is in operation. Work is strenuous because of the large equipment operated, the adjustments made, and the adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. The incumbent is required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.
Working Conditions: The operation of large and complicated gasoline or diesel powered engineering and construction equipment in difficult circumstances increases exposure and risk of injury. The incumbent works both inside and outside and is exposed to hot and humid weather and/or extremely cold weather with temperatures ranging from below 0 to above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. Ice, road oils, and other items such as loose gravel and rocks may create hazardous conditions. The operator is subjected to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, oils, solvents, and fumes from motors and exhausts. When working inside, the incumbent must ensure proper ventilation to minimize fumes caused by equipment or vehicles. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. The incumbent is required to follow all prescribed safety practices and use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as protective hearing devices and hard hats to prevent injury.
