The Tibor Rubin VA Medical Center is currently looking for one (1) Advanced Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Interventional Radiography) in the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
Duties
The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (DRT) Interventional Radiography (IR) must be knowledgeable in the specialized equipment employed for digital subtraction systems and interventional procedures. The IR technologist administers contrast media under the supervision of the staff radiologist and confers with the radiologist to establish requirements with reference to contrast agents, vital signs, medications, and physiologic monitoring to perform procedures. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Performs special procedure/interventional examinations for the patients of this medical center.
Performs visceral and peripheral angiography, venograms, interventional radiography (stents, angioplasty, thrombolytic therapy), cardiac catherization, cerebral (carotid) angiograms, and biopsies.
Administers contrast media under the supervision of the staff radiologist and confers with the radiologist to establish requirements with reference to contrast agents, vital signs, medications, and physiologic monitoring to perform procedures.
Assist the Radiologist by scrubbing in as needed and running the c-arm machine for provider under direct supervision of practitioner trained in fluoroscopy.
Maintains record of patients treated, examinations performed, views taken, contrast media used, and other supplies that are used during the examination.
Performs minor maintenance on equipment, reporting any equipment failures/concerns to the supervisor, and put submit work orders for repair of equipment.
Participates in on-call rotation to provide 24 hour/ 7 days per week coverage, and in the departmental in-service program.
Reviews the technical quality of all images/films connected with studies performed.
Assures the sterile supplies, contrast media, catheters, previous medical records, and other required equipment are present and available for the procedure.
Assists the Radiologist by scrubbing in as needed and running the c-arm machine for provider under direct supervision of practitioner trained in fluoroscopy.
Follow prescribed protocols required to perform procedures.
Performs minor maintenance on equipment, reporting any equipment failures/concerns to the supervisor, put work orders in for equipment repair.
Work Schedule: 8 hours shift: 7:00am - 3:30 pm, with on-call for off duty hours, including evenings, overnight and weekends

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency. DRTs must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or Mammography (M) duties performed independently. Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE). Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements above, candidates must meet the following grade requirements.
GS-9 Diagnostics Radiologic Technologist Experience: At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates the clinical competencies. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Ability to provide technical oversight and assign personnel and tasks to be accomplished in a manner that assures completion of the workload utilizing the personnel to the greatest advantage thus providing the optimal level of patient care within the workday.
Ability to plan, direct, and distribute work assignments to DRTs at lower grade levels.
Skill in instructing and training DRTs on newly acquired equipment.
Ability to plan and project staffing needs.
Skill to independently perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.
Assignment. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, complexity (difficulty), and range of variety, and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time. Employees at this level are fully functional as an advanced ORT and carry out their assigned tasks independently. DRTs at this level may have varying assignments including special and complex imaging procedures beyond the full performance level, clinical instruction, and basic QM type duties within the program. Regardless of the nature of the specific assignment, the work must be of sufficient scope and complexity to meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform at this level. An DRT IR technologist, functions as vascular interventional (VI) technologists which uses specialized equipment to perform diagnostic angiographic procedures and complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. This specialty requires additional knowledge of vascular systems and major vessel anatomy. The technologist must be knowledgeable in the specialized equipment employed for digital subtraction systems and interventional procedures. The technologist administers contrast media under the supervision of the staff radiologist and confers with the radiologist to establish requirements regarding contrast agents, vital signs, medications, and physiologic monitoring to perform procedures. IR technologist must be knowledgeable in digital imagining and PACS.
Preferred Experience: Performs special procedure/interventional examinations for the patients of this medical center and other patients under contract or fee based to this medical center. Examinations include but are not limited to visceral and peripheral angiography, venograms, interventional radiography (stents, angioplasty, thrombolytic therapy), cardiac catheterizations, and biopsies. As need dictates will perform less-complex examinations such as routine general examinations, fluoroscopy, etc. This specialty requires additional knowledge of vascular systems and major vessel anatomy. The technologist must be knowledgeable in the specialized equipment employed for digital subtraction systems and interventional procedures. These technologists must be knowledgeable in digital imaging.

The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-9. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is GS-9.
