The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Generalist will assist Operating Room Staff by performing radiology technologist duties during procedures such as such as podiatric surgery, neurosurgery spine procedures, and port-a-Cath placement. The technologist will be responsible for performing the full spectrum of radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations. In addition, works with the vascular surgeons in the OR performing runoffs, stent placements, and endovascular grafts.
Duties
Duties Include but are not limited to:
Performs procedures such as fluoroscopy, gastrointestinal examinations, conventional plain film radiography, myelography, fluoroscopic guided, interventional procedures, portable radiography, digital radiography, and operating room radiography.
Supports radiologists and clinicians in the performance of these exams; anticipates imaging, and equipment needs before and during the procedure, follows the progress of the procedure and facilitates an efficient flow.
Performs examinations of head, trunk, and extremities for routine physical examinations and for diagnosis of illness or of injuries of accident victims.
Performs radiographic procedures using the proper exposure techniques, including manual and photo timed exposures.
Monitors the examination by checking the computation, performance, and results of the selected parameters to obtain the best diagnostic computer-generated data and images.
Sets up the x-ray room assuring sterile supplies, contrast materials, catheters, and other required equipment are present and laid out.
Reviews labs, medical history of patient for indications of his/her ability to tolerate the exam and for possible side effects.
Preview schedule and assist in changes and remain flexible to meet evolving needs on the operative floor.
Prepares equipment for daily operation, brings system up, checks all self-calibrating parameters.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8am-4:30pm
*This Position supports 24/7 operations throughout the calendar year. Work is typically performed on the day shift; however, candidate may be subject to overtime work, shift work, and/or work on rotating shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Subject to call back outside tour of duty.*

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable].
Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]

Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements, completion of 1 year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled which demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics that are directly related to the specific assignment. For GS-06/7/8, completion of 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the lower grade level and directly related to the position being filed. Provide non-award SF-50 as documentation for proof of time in grade. The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-08. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-05 to GS-08.

Physical Requirements: The physical demand of the work includes Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing up to 4 hours; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers, good dexterity (both hands required); prolonged walking, prolonged standing; repeated bending; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); speed in working; and emotional stability. Must have the ability to stand and work while wearing lead apron for long periods of time.
