Duties

Specific duties to include:
Provide continuity of patient care between the outpatient and inpatient venues.
Perform initial evaluation of consults in the ER, ICU, and inpatient units when residents are in the operating room or at a conference.
Assist in the management on the inpatient floors working collaboratively with residents and the floor nurses, including making rounds with the vascular surgery team.
Provide specialty care to patients with acute and chronic problems, managed by the vascular subspecialty.
Complete patient assessment, including history and physical exams as indicated and order appropriate diagnostic tests, as specified in clinical privileges.
Prescribe medications, diet, supplies, and prosthetic devices according to clinical privileges.
Coordinate special order items and community care testing as needed.
Teach and counsel patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, plan of care and intervene with optimal treatment for patients and families; evaluate outcomes and modify treatment plans as indicated.
Participate in clinics seeing vascular patients.
Support the advanced clinic access (ACA) principles to improve clinic flow, reduce number of visits per unique; improve patient wait time in clinic, and utilize VVC visits when appropriate.
Participate on interdisciplinary councils, task forces, and committees as assigned.
Participate in selection and development of patient education materials.
Advance clinical knowledge of self and others by presenting relevant information and continuing education programs for nursing and medical staff.
The PA may be assigned administrative duties including quality assurance, peer review, serving on various committees as directed by administration, and as deemed appropriate by the managing physician. Other non-clinical tasks may also be assigned.

Qualifications

Physician Assistant Basic Requirements
Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~
Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~
Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.

Current or previous experience in Vascular Surgery
Grade Determinations:
Grade 1- Entry Level with knowledge, skills, and abilities that present the minimum skill set expected of an Entry Level PA. Nothing additional required beyond basic requirements.
Grade 2- Intermediate grade level and has had progressively increasing responsibility and experiences.
Two years of successful practice as a PA OR Successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency. OR A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Grade 3- Full Performance Level and lead and organize patient care independently, practice within multi-disciplinary teams, and coordinate all aspects of patient care across the health care system.
Three years of successful practice as a PA OR successful completion of a PA post-graduate residency program sponsored by VHA Office of Academic Affiliations or other postgraduate residency programs accredited by VA, ARC-PA, U.S. Armed Forces, or another accrediting agency. OR A doctoral degree in a health-related field from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and one year of professional practice as a PA.
Qualifications:
Current PA license.
Graduate of master's degree Physician Assistant (PA) program.
WI Prescriptive Authority.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Preferred:
Current or previous experience in vascular disorders.

The full performance level of this vacancy is 3. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of 1 to 3.
Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.
