The Interventional Radiology Supervisor DRT (CV) serves as supervising technologist of the Interventional Radiology Section. Duties of Supervisor Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist DRT(CV), the incumbent has primary responsibility for clinical operations in the Interventional Radiology (IR) Section of the Imaging Service to plan, direct and provide oversight of the delivery of IR services in the Charles George VA Medical Center.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Verify and maintain staff competencies, including training, continuing education, coaching, and mentoring. Staff competencies include knowledge and skills related to the duties of an interventional radiology technologist, and general competencies of a VA employee.
Serve as the principal quality manager for the Interventional Radiology Section. Provide oversight of technical and clinical quality with monitors and indices of quality, and initiate corrections as needed. Facilitate and oversee performance improvement activities, including study design, data collection, analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up.
Foster a culture of job and patient safety. This includes safe patient handling, infection control, and radiation safety with promotion of staff involvement and empowerment (e.g., "stop-the-line" authority).
Implement processes that foster efficient patient flow including access, timeliness of exams, effective use of staff resources, integration with medical center operations, and systems redesign.
Support educational opportunities, including career development, continuing education, and affiliations with training programs. Ensure that trainees are provided effective clinical experience that promotes technical proficiency, clinical acumen, and interpersonal skills.
Support fiscal responsibility including input into budgets and inventory control. Manage staffing resources, including overtime and supplementary staffing, balancing fiscal accountability, productivity, and patient care needs.
Develop performance plans that inform employees of the performance requirements of their position, establish benchmarks, and keep them apprised of their progress. Prepare formal evaluations of employee performance. Compose and revise functional statements as needed.
Administer corrective and disciplinary actions for conduct or performance issues in consultation with the HR ER/LR (Employee Relations/Labor Relations) Specialist. Apply tools of documentation, coaching and progressive discipline.
Develop a system for recognition and rewards for high staff performance.
Apply knowledge and writing skills to create and update standard operating procedures and policies. Compose business reports such as resource and equipment requests, service agreements and other documents using lucid business writing.
Work assignments are implicit in the clinical operational duties listed above and in the annual Performance Plan with additional specific assignments generated in Imaging Leadership meetings or through personal communication.
The incumbent is responsible to independently provide oversight of clinical operations in the IR Section: make work assignments to team members, coordinate workflow, and adapt to changing circumstances, ensure overall quality of work, radiation safety and technical guidance. The incumbent is responsible for compliance with various relevant standards, policies, and procedures, and uses independent judgement and leadership skills to resolve the majority of issues.
Work assignments are implicit in the administrative duties listed above and in the annual Performance Plan with additional specific assignments generated in Imaging Leadership meetings or through personal communication.
Work is reviewed in relation to elements detailed in the annual Performance Plan to include factors of completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements: Citizenship.
Be a citizen of the United States.
Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R).Education. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
Credentialing Standards: Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS:
Creditable Experience.
Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it was earned after completion of the basic certification requirements identified in paragraph 2b above. Experience as a graduate DRT is creditable provided the candidate functioned as a DRT and subsequently passed the certification examination.
Part-Time Experience. Part-time experience as a DRT is creditable according to its relationship to the full-time workweek. For example, a DRT would receive one week of full- time credit for each two weeks of half-time work.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS. In addition to the basic requirements for appointment, the following criteria must be used when determining the appropriate grade assignment of candidates:

The incumbent advises employees of the performance requirements of their positions, informs them of their progress. The incumbent conducts corrective interviews with employees, referring disciplinary problems to higher levels of management; resolves informal complaints of employees; and deals with union representatives as appropriate. Supervisory DRTs plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility. Assignments at this level include but are not limited to: assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; recommending final decisions on selections; evaluating performance and recommending disciplinary action when necessary. The incumbent has professional responsibility for planning and directing the DRTs activities and is responsible for extracting and analyzing data to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):

Skill in interpersonal relationships in dealing with employees, team leaders, and managers.
*Skill in assessing qualifications and abilities of current and prospective employees.
*Ability to consult with radiologist to develop standard and non-standard treatment/exam protocols.
Ability to independently perform general and specialized diagnostic radiologic procedures in advanced levels of complex treatment situations.
