This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Program Specialist will provide effective support undergraduate medical, dental, optometry, and podiatry trainees engaged in training programs within Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System.
Duties
Duties Include but not limited to:
Plans, organizes and coordinates administrative services for the undergraduate medical, dental, optometry and podiatry training programs.
Researches, develops and implements policies, procedures, and institutional controls critical to the accreditation of the training programs following directives from the Office of Academic Affiliations.
Provides in-depth knowledge of the rules, procedures, and regulations and provides direct administrative assistance and advice in working directly with the leadership in examining or carrying out policy.
Briefs leadership, Service Line Chiefs, and trainees on directives applicable to the programs.
Serves as the undergraduate medical training programs liaison of Health Care System.
Manages data collection from electronic sources.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Utilizes various database applications to create, update, maintain, and manage sensitive databases and spreadsheets, outcome assessment etc.;
Manage and sponsor health trainees in the security portals;
Create/maintain profiles for residents and students;
Administrative and Troubleshooting skills that are necessary to assist students and residents in using computer based system.
OR,
Education: You must have successfully completed Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related to such a degree in a major field of study related to the work of the position which provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: Work is primarily sedentary. The employee typically sits comfortably to do the work. There may be some walking, standing, bending, or carrying of light items.
