About the Position: This position falls under the Defense Health Agency-Tidewater Market under the Directorate of Clinical Support, Pharmacy, performing technical support functions in an outpatient pharmacy, including operation and care of varied pharmaceutical equipment, and processing medication orders using computerized order entry as a representative of the pharmacy, often independently answering inquiries from doctors, nurses, patients and staff. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Utilize computer-based systems and software to transcribe prescriptions into the current pharmacy computer system, processing prescriptions with pharmacy automation and robotics and troubleshooting devices in the workspace as necessary. Answer routine questions concerning proper use, dosage, administration, drug interaction within scope, and side effects of medications. Maintain controlled substance inventory, prepare medications for verification by a pharmacist. Extensive patient engagement, assisting with Tricare processing and patient education regarding benefits in person and over the phone, contact providers directly for clarification on questionable medication orders. Exercise proactive judgment to provide effective and efficient patient service with compassion.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical.
  • In accordance w/BUMEDINST 6230.l 5B, susceptible/occupationally exposed employees w/direct contact w/patients will receive immunization against communicable diseases unless a current immunization, protective titer, or medical exemption documented.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position may be required to work on any day or shift, including night, weekends, holidays or an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position is designated "Mission Essential." In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situation (natural or man-made) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission.
  • Licensed Pharmacy Technician required.
  • Incumbent must hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)Certification that is sponsored/endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Current Advance Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes, verifying accuracy of pharmaceutical labels for filling and administering pharmaceuticals; utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data; and rotating pharmacy stock. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR EDUCATION: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
