This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a part time position located at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD in the Department of Pediatrics Primary Care.

Duties

Perform examinations and assessment of patients. Obtain and record health history for patients. Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests. Assess and document patient responses to medications administered. Provide education and counseling to patients and their family members regarding the disease process, tests, therapy regimens, maintenance of health, prevention of illness, etc. Present patient cases during patient rounds. Develop treatment plans and prescribe medications, as applicable. Collaborate with physicians regarding patient management and high-risk/complex treatment cases.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
• Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
• This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
• Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

Basic Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Advanced Practice Nurse Education: Applicants must possess a graduate or higher level Nurse Practitioner degree from an accredited educational program. Foreign Nursing Schools: An official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. You must submit a copy of your certification with your application package. Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Positions: Applicants must possess a license or registration by the State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: At least one or more years of professional nursing experiencewhich includes: performing examination and assessments of Pediatric patients, recording health history of patients, ordering/interpreting laboratory and/or diagnostic tests, and prescribing a variety of medications to patients. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone - no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
