About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located with CRANE at Crane, Indiana. This is a bargaining unit position.

Duties

Implements a wide range of general maintenance tasks and major repair or renovation projects involved in the upkeep of differing types of machinery and equipment, which incorporate mechanical, electromechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical. Fabricates necessary templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for installation or repair of equipment. Uses and applies a variety of testing and measuring instruments, trade methods, procedures and techniques, special materials and supplies, and standard or special tools and equipment. Performs a combination of troubleshooting, installing, repairing, overhaul, modification, preventive maintenance, functional testing and inspection on industrial production equipment (conveyors, power transmission, high pressure presses and shapers).

  • This position requires the incumbent to be respirator certified without restrictions.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid Aerial Work Platform License.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles and must possess and maintain installation driving privileges.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator License.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.

Qualifications

This position is a TERM not to exceed 2 Years, with provisions to extend up to six years with provisions to be made permanent without further competition. To be eligible for conversion to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment, you must have: * completed at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service. * demonstrate successful job performance. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a General Equipment Mechanic (Forklift Operator) without more than normal supervision. Applicants must meet the screen out elements to be considered further. The work of the position normally includes: Threading and assembling various types of piping to assist seasoned craftsmen in the installation of conduit and piping systems; Test electrical components with the assistance of higher-skilled employees; Use non-production industrial machinery and equipment such as optical instruments, bridge cranes and hoists, conveyors, hydraulic testing equipment, sandblasting machines, laundry equipment, lifting devices, etc.; Use production industrial machinery, equipment, and systems such as presses, milling machines, shapers, lathes, punches, grinders, jointers, planers, table saws, and portable woodworking and metalworking power tools. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequently handles objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally carries objects weighing 45 pounds or more for considerable distances. Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and climbing for sustained periods of time and working in cramped or awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside in all types of weather where temperature variations of 40 degrees in a day are common and seasonal temperatures range from below zero to more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Position is subject to working on cold, damp, or drafty surfaces and on high structures where there is danger of falling. Constant exposure to excessive noise, uneven surfaces, moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges. Grease, dirt, dust, hot surfaces, and chemicals with associated fumes or vapors are frequently encountered. Use of protective devices such as hard hats, gloves, safety shoes and glasses, respirators, harnesses, and approved electrical and arc-flash safety gear are required. Performs incidental driving to and from work sites and attendance at various vehicle-driving courses. Must be certified by the Director to perform, lifting device testing and inspection.
