This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Conduct accession medical examinations at a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS).
Perform medical evaluations in accordance with required medical standards for military suitability determination.
Ensure MEPS adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) healthcare setting requirements and Privacy Act Data protection.
Obtain and review patients’ medical histories to ensure suitability of applicants for service in the Armed Forces.
Interpret patients’ medical documentation, special screenings and/or select laboratory findings to determine any abnormalities.
Perform post-processing inspections of previously qualified applicants to ensure continued compliance to medical fitness standards.
Requirements
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is designated as non-sensitive and requires a personal security background investigation.
- All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Incumbent may be required to work on Saturdays and/or shift work (work before 0600 or after 1800 hours).
- Incumbent must successfully complete Military Health System (MHS) GENESIS Training as required in order to access the MHS GENESIS System within 30 days of on-boarding and/or as required.
Qualifications
TERM Appointment Information: This position is a TERM not to exceed 366 days, with provisions to extend up to eight years with provisions to be made permanent without further competition.
To be eligible for conversion to a permanent career-conditional or career appointment, you must have:
Completed at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service.
Demonstrate successful job performance.
Army employees who accept a TERM appointment will be separated at the end of the TERM appointment date if the Not-to-Exceed (NTE) date is not extended. There are no return/reemployment rights to the position vacated prior to accepting the TERM appointment.

Basic Requirement for Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner):
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.).
Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes Conducting physical and/or emotional assessments for physical screening examinations; Ordering and/or interpreting diagnostic tests (e.g. lab work); Diagnosing and treating acute and/or chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes, high blood pressure, infections, injuries, etc.); Updating patient medical records.. This definition of professional nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
