This position is organizationally aligned in the Patient Registration Area within Health Administration Service of the University Drive, VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS).
Duties
The Information Receptionist receives and directs visitors in the main lobby of the facility in an interactive positive manner. The incumbent provides information about the organization, its functions, activities and programs as well as transports patients via wheelchairs as needed, primarily within the patient registration area. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Prepare enrollment forms,
Maintain proper storage and inventory of wheelchairs for patient use,
Report unsafe conditions, occupational injuries, and broken equipment to the patient registration supervisor,
Listen to patients' complaints and concerns and report occurrences to the supervisor.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below:
General Experience: You must have 3 months of general office experience. General Experience is defined as one or more of the following: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR,
Education: High School Graduation

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work includes lifting, walking, pushing, stooping, reaching, standing, sitting, and bending. Proper body mechanics must be utilized. The employee must have the physical endurance necessary to assist in the transferring and transporting of patients within the patient registration area and to actively assist Veterans with seating, retrieving VHIC photo background, and in the use of the self-check in machines (Kiosks) for prolonged periods of time.
