As an Assistant Project Manager you will be responsible for assisting Project Managers and Supervisors of the Space and Renovation Services with managing and overseeing all aspects of current, projected, and on-going projects. In this capacity the incumbent is responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating, and implementing all logistical actions required to carry out office space planning, renovations in federally owned and leased space projects.
Duties
Portfolio Planning – Assists Project Manager(s) with conducting portfolio assessment of VA office space to identify opportunities for space reduction, adjacencies, consolidation, changes in use, or growth.
Requirements Development – Assists Project Manager(s) with the development of office space requirements with comprehensive needs assessments techniques and analysis for existing and new space requests in a timely manner.
Space Planning –Assists Project Manager(s) with providing interior office space plan scenarios to design new office space and furniture configurations using AutoCAD or similar programs.
Project Management – Assists Project Manager(s) with responsibility for overall project management of office renovations and prospectus level or equally complex or precedent setting projects.
Project Execution – Assists Project Manager(s) with processing service requests like painting and electrical work, furniture alterations, and signage requests.
Assists with translating the department and staff office work requests into Statements of Work, Internal Government Estimates, and performs market research for office design, construction, and furniture procurements.
Project Closeout – Assists with ensuring all punch lists are completed, customers are satisfied, invoices are paid, warranties and operations and maintenance manuals are filed and that GSA’s RWA is closed out.
Minor Construction Program – Assists Program Manager with providing advice to staff and upper management in planning, developing, budgeting, implementing and tracking design and construction renovation programs for VA’s office space.
Space Management Systems - Assists with managing space management systems and programs to help track utilization and assignment of space.
Space Utilization - Completes special projects that would include conducting space surveys with a report detailing occupancy rates, average square footages and recommendations for more efficient use of the space.

To qualify for GS-12, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as work that involves (1) Assists project managers with administrative tasks related to project management of federally owned and leased office space projects. (2) Assists project managers with developing office space requirements with comprehensive needs assessments. (3) Assists project managers with translating government space requirements into Statements of Work, Internal Government Estimates, performs market research for office space and furniture contracts. (4) Assists project managers with evaluation of office space design and construction costs in contractors' proposals and contracts.
Education
There is no educational substitution for the GS-12 level.
