This position is located at the VA Medical Center in the Engineering Service, Iowa City, Iowa.
Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to:
Develop and draw preliminary sketches, plot utility plans, maps, architectural plans, electrical schematics, electrical circuit plans, plumbing schematics, plumbing plans (piping layout), heating ventilation and air conditioning system layouts, etc. with an optimal level of drafting techniques and use of the CAD system.
Coordinate all assigned projects, including at times leases, from conception through completion.
Prepare and oversee the production of plans, specifications, estimates, and schedules for complex projects.
Administers construction contracts for compliance with project documents and other applicable standards.
At project completion, ensures all closeout documentation is received and filed.
Prepare space requirement packages for new leases.
Conducts market research and analysis for potential properties.
Work Schedule: Fulltime; Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm
Qualifications
You must possess:
Qualifying specialized experience include technical work in drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as: OR Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes. Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.

Certification: Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
Along with meeting the above basic requirement you must also meet minimum qualifications.
At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Develop and present written and oral reports and briefings on a variety of general engineering issues and problems.; Develops cost estimates, preliminary plans, and contracting documents for submission of project proposals.; Coordinates with users of spaces to determine needs, applying latest design criteria to meet all code requirements.; Prepares drawings, layouts, and plans required for improvements, alterations, modifications, repairs, equipment installation and new construction using computer aided design and drafting (CAD).; Collaborate with team members at varied levels of authority to monitor progress toward project goals and deadlines.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
Most of the work is performed indoors in a well-lit, temperature and sound controlled
office setting. However, incumbent may be exposed to the hazards of weather, dirt, dust
etc. associated with construction settings while making "on-site" inspections of assigned
projects. Incumbent must be physically able to climb, crawl, walk, stoop, sit and stand to
perform assigned duties. Incumbent is also expected to comply with all safety codes
and other practices described in the Engineering and Medical Center Safety Manuals.
