About the Position: This Respiratory Therapist (RT) position will work independently providing a variety of complex respiratory therapy treatments in outpatient settings for the neonatal and pediatric clinic. The position reports to the Specialty Nurse Manager. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Serve as a Respiratory Therapist within the Department of Pediatrics performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures on pediatric and neonatal intensive care patients. Operate and monitor a variety of instruments to perform more complicated pulmonary function testing to include complete lung volume measurements, carbon monoxide diffusion capacity, and exercise challenge testing. Work with the medical officer to plan and set up new techniques or procedures for evaluating pulmonary physiology. Perform assessments of patients through examination, analyses of laboratory results and interpretation of x-rays for the independent adjustment of ventilator settings in emergency situations. Establish and may serve as co-investigator on various research protocols within Pediatric Pulmonary Disease Service.

• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
• This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes evaluating respiratory therapy patients, and setting up, operating, or maintaining respiratory therapy equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Respiratory Therapy. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
