Duties

As a/an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will: Provide guidance on achieving compliance with 17 federal environmental laws for complex, controversial, and unique projects. Apply new developments and theories to major environmental compliance problems not susceptible to remedy by established methods. Examples include: environmental noise, radon, air pollution, toxic wastes and industrial hazards. Develop policies, procedures, and guidance documents to implement the Department's responsibilities on environmental matters pursuant to the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and related Legislation and Executive technical and procedural assistance to all CPD staff, both field and Headquarters, on the above. Make decisions or recommendations significantly changing, interpreting, or expanding important HUD programs for environmental compliance. Provide leadership and input into HUD's environmental regulations and policies. Identify training requirements on environment and energy matters; coordinates and leads training and technical assistance on complex or inter-program topics, including NEPA and related environmental laws.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Planning, implementing, or authoring environmental compliance guidance and regulations for projects under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969 (83 Stat. 852) [42 U.S.C. 4321]; AND Advising senior leadership on environmental protection and compliance issues Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
