This position is organizationally located under the AA/Education Section of the New Mexico VA Medical Center (NMVAMC). This position reports to Associate Chief of Staff for Education (ACOS/E), also known as the Designated Education Officer (DEO), through the Chief of Education, also known as the Designated Learning Officer (DLO). The incumbent is responsible for a variety of training and administrative duties for the service, including course management, instruction, counseling and supporting.

Duties

Note: The incumbent is responsible for a variety of training and administrative duties for the service, including course management, instruction, counseling and supporting the Chief of Education with ad-hoc assignments. The incumbent facilitates compliance with regulating areas that have an impact on VISN and VA Head-quarters. The incumbent is responsible for implementation of management systems to ensure compliance with local, state, agency, and federal administrative requirements/regulations. The Education Technician provides administrative support to the Education & Training (E&T) Committee and other relevant ad hoc committees and groups, as needed. He/she provides administrative support to all education committees. Additionally, the Education Technician prepares committee minutes for accuracy for Supervisor's signature prior to submission.Duties include, but not limited to: Work in partnership with simulation coordinator, clinical experts, and other clinical subject matter experts to develop interactive learning/simulation and provide technical support to clinical simulation training. Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of education that integrates interactive learning/simulation training to service line and facility learning plans. Program, test, and troubleshoot simulation software scenarios, requiring knowledge and experience with complex computer software and audiovisual equipment. Serve as liaison between the center and the equipment manufacturers regarding the proper use of equipment and required maintenance. Provide technical assistance, consultation, and guidance related to AV equipment. Interact with patients, visitors, staff, students, and volunteers in a courteous, helpful, cooperative, and compassionate manner, contributing to the effective operation of both service and the Medical Center. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/03/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Assist simulation instructors with simulation training/courses, including operating simulation control room, simulation equipment, and voice activated manikins; familiar with adult learning principles, public speaking and facilitating groups; Ensure the effective operation of all NMVAHCS training program activities; and set up training rooms to ensure appropriate equipment and interactive learning tools are available for training. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending, and lifting of equipment weighing less than 40 pounds. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
