About the Position: This position is with the Blue Grass Chemical Activity (BGCA) which is located at the Blue Grass Army Depot (BGAD), assisting higher graded personnel as they perform serviceability.
Blue Grass Army Depot is located in Richmond, Kentucky. Richmond is the home of Eastern Kentucky University. Richmond, Kentucky is centrally located, and within driving distance to a number of major cities. It is approximately 20 miles from Lexington, KY; 90 miles from Louisville, KY.
Duties
Perform serviceability and technical inspections of toxicological agent protective clothing.
Visually inspect protective clothing for rips and tears.
Maintain equipment record cards for protective clothing recording serial numbers, inspection dates and repairs.
Perform inventory of protective clothing and recommend reordering when stock is low.
Enter all test results into the Chemical Protective Equipment Tracking System.
Perform air leakage tests on inlet valves and seals of protective masks.
Clean masks in accordance with technical manuals/directives.
Activate and operate test equipment.
Operate a forklift to load and unload protective equipment from tractor trailers.
Operate laundry room equipment for washing, rinsing, and drying clothing and materials including protective TAP clothing and gas masks used in toxic chemical operation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position requires participation in Chemical Incident or Mishap Response and Assistance (CIMRA) situations and serve on teams dedicated to controlling CIMRA situations after being trained for the particular duty involved.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid Forklift License with a capacity of up to 15,000 lbs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Protective Equipment Mechanic/Inspector without more than normal supervision. The duties include testing of a variety of life support systems and safety equipment, operating test equipment, and performing maintenance. Visually check safety equipment for damage, determine appropriate corrective action, repair or disposition. Provide warehouse support, operate a forklift to load and unload protective equipment from tractor trailers. Utilize a computer to assign bar codes, issue documents, and monitor maintenance recall. Follow oral and written instructions and apply safety standards. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Employee performs work on hard surfaces and in work areas requiring him/her to stand, stoop, bend, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. He/she frequently lifts and carries cartons, materials, supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty pounds and may occasionally handle items weighting up to forty pounds. Hand trucks, dollies and other workers are available for assistance with heavier items.
Working Conditions: Work is generally performed in areas that are well lighted, heated and ventilated. The individual may occasionally work inside areas that are drafty. There is a slight danger of contact dermatitis involved with handling used protective and safety equipment. The individual will occasionally be required to wear respiratory protective equipment.
Education
