The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is an essential labor law enforcement agency responsible for enforcing significant labor laws affecting nearly 150 million workers. Our mission is to protect rights related to minimum wage, overtime, child labor, family and medical leave, employment conditions for migrant workers, lie detector tests, garnishments, prevailing wages on government-funded contracts, labor provisions of several guest worker programs, and more.

Duties

This is a developmental position. The career ladder progression is GS-07/8/9. In the developmental grade levels, the employee will carry out a variety of assignments as a continuation of their training and development, with duties being performed under closer than normal supervision. As the employee progresses, the assignments will become more difficult and complex in preparation to fully perform the duties at the full performance level (GS-09). As a Wage and Hour Technician, duties will consist of but is not limited to the following:

• Must be at least 16 years old and a U.S. Citizen.
• Candidate required to obtain and maintain the necessary security/investigation level.
• Requires a probationary period if the requirement has not been met.

Qualifications

A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. To qualify for Wage and Hour Technician, your resume must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level, in the Federal Service. The experience must be directly related to the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience are as follows: Preparing written communication to summarize information; Responding to and/or resolving customer complaints; Assisting with interviews or investigations to gather data/information; Analyzing numerical data to identify discrepancies and/or perform mathematical calculations.

Education

This position has no education requirements and there is no substitution of education for specialized experience at this grade level. Applicants must possess the required specialized experience.
