This position is on the Criminal Division's (CRM) Office of Administration, Human Resources Operations Team (HR Ops) and supports CRM in prosecuting high profile and nationally significant cases. HR Ops is a diverse team of committed HR professionals, and our overall workload is dynamic and fast paced. We work on routine matters related to recruitment, staffing, payroll, benefits, and records as well as many unique and exciting requests from all 17 Sections of CRM.
Duties
As a Human Resources Assistant, you will:
Have the opportunity to learn the elements of several areas of Federal Government Human Resources to include recruitment, staffing, and payroll;
Partner with the HR Specialist team to issue offers to new employees, provide orientation training, and work on special projects for the HR Office;
Assist HR Specialists to perform qualification reviews of attorney applicants;
Get the chance to directly assist applicants with standard questions regarding their applications or the HR process;
Enter requests into HR payroll system to include promotions, separations, reassignments, and new hires;
Provide support to HR programs such as the Volunteer Intern Program, Pathways, pay increases, extensions, and the Exit Program; and
Learn the details of HR policies to be able to answer customers' HR questions.

Qualifications
To qualify at the GS-04 grade level, applicants must have completed 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree; OR have 1 year of general experience to include: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled; OR have a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, applicants must have one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-04 grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: using forms, databases, and systems to complete general or human resources related assignments; assisting HR Specialists in carrying out a wide range of tasks related to staffing, payroll or benefits, and employee onboarding such as posting vacancy announcements or processing personnel actions such as promotions, new employee processing, and separations; and preparing routine reports; OR have completed four (4) academic years of post-high school education leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; OR have a combination of education and experience: equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Please note, only education in excess of 60 undergraduate hours may be used in this calculation.
Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.
All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see www.ed.gov.
