Duties

Maintains control of Historical Records Archives. Performs archival research and reference services. Prepares and updates manual, operating instructions, and virtual libraries. Conducts archival preservation and restoration.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. -OR- Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes managing programs and related resources in the area of archives collection; performing archival arrangement and cataloguing; and retrieving documents, microform, audio tapes, and other archival materials. OR EDUCATION: successfully completed two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field. This education was obtained in an accredited college or university. (YOU MUST SUBMIT COPIES OF COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS) OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100 percent. To combine education and experience, determine the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level. Then determine the education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. Finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level. NOTE: YOU MUST SUBMIT A COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Ability to follow established instructions and policies, particularly concerning the control and handling of classified materials. Knowledge of archival principles and procedures, laws, regulations, policies and precedents, which affect the use programs and related resources in the area of archives collection. Knowledge of standards methods, techniques concepts and principles or archival arrangement and cataloguing in order to perform independent assignments in organizing and cataloging archival holding without significant deviation from archival standards. Knowledge of methods, procedures, and techniques to assist directorate staff members and other authorized researchers in locating and retrieving documents, microform, audio tapes, and other archival materials. Ability to operate general office equipment, such as computers, printers, fax machines, microform readers and photocopiers. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
