About the Position: You will assist the Brigade Judge Advocate in gathering,arranging, analyzing, and evaluating information and evidence needed for case processing.

Duties

Perform substantive legal research in the areas of military justice, administrative law, administrative separations, commanders’ inquiries, and reports of investigation. Review allegations of Improper Recruiting Practices from various sources such as HQ, US Army Recruiting Command, PERSCOM, Major Command, Recruiting Battalions, Army Training Centers, etc. Prepare and review legal documents for content, legal sufficiency, and administrative accuracy.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Utilizing extensive knowledge of Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) to conduct thorough legal research into the precedential cases, decisions and opinions that may be applicable to a particular legal matter; 2) Drafting technically complex post-trial documents; AND 3) Preparing and processing a variety of military legal actions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Attention to DetailLegal, Government and JurisprudenceOrganizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
