Duties
Typical work assignments include:
Serves as an expert consultant evaluation for functional teams, to assist them in anticipating, identifying, evaluating, mitigating and minimizing risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities.
Applies mastery of IT systems security principles, concepts and methods to recommend appropriate technical strategies.
Implements state-of-the-art and emerging techniques and products to resolve complex and persistent IT security challenges.
Implements higher-level security requirements such as those resulting from laws, regulations, or Presidential directives.
Integrates security programs across disciplines.
Defines the scope and level of detail for security plans and policies; applicable to the security program.
Coordinate and provide expert technical support to enterprise-wide cyber defense technicians to resolve cyber defense incidents.
Perform event correlation using information gathered from a variety of sources within the enterprise to gain situational awareness and determine the effectiveness of an observed attack.
Qualifications
To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
Basic Requirement Competencies: The specialized experience must include, or be supplemented by, information technology related experience (paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training, as appropriate) which demonstrates each of the four competencies, as defined:
Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
AND
Specialized GS-13: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Advising internal/external IT subdivisions to resolve IT defense incidents; 2) Minimizing IT systems vulnerabilities risk for the agency; AND 3) Escalating IT security issues for further action. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-12.
OR
Specialized GS-14: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Performing cyber defense incident triage to make remediation recommendations; 2) Performing event correlation to determine the effectiveness of an observed attack; AND 3) Implementing higher-level security requirements to maintain compliance with resulting from federal laws. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-13.
National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
