The Prosthetic Clerk is assigned to the Prosthetics Services located in Temple and Austin Texas. The incumbent is responsible for front desk encounters to determine the nature of the Visit/or call and directs them appropriately. The incumbent is responsible for providing prescribed prosthetic/orthotic items according to the physician's request; annotating Veteran's medical record and using software computer applications in accordance with Prosthetic Clinical guidelines.

Duties

Receives veterans at the front desk or by telephone encounter to determine the nature of their visit/telephone call and directs them appropriately Responsible to correctly provide veterans the prescribed over the counter prosthetic/orthotic items according to their physician's request Receives applications from veterans and provides processing guidance/information on Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Program applications Updates the veteran's CPRS, medical record, and enter into prosthetic software computer application Reviews prosthetic consults request for eligibility and entitlement and ensures the correct disability code is entered in the prosthetic software Ensures consults are forwarded to the appropriate service for action or completion Communicates with various services to clarify a provider's prosthetic/orthotic consult order and will sort and distribute printed consults to the appropriate purchasing agents for items that must be ordered Provide instructions to veterans/caretakers in the use of off the shelf prosthetic devices or items Assist the Inventory Managers and Purchasing Agents with mail-outs as needed, Receive incoming stock and put on shelves, and assemble mobility equipment according to the manufacturer's written instructions. Interpret clinician's requests, differentiate the many types of appliances, their appropriate application and determine when it is necessary to obtain additional medical referral for the veteran or when a request requires review by the Prosthetic Representatives Participate in the Prosthetic & Sensory Aids quality improvement programs, gathering information from veterans by walk-in or telephone. Performs other duties as may be directed by the Chief, Assistant Chief, or Prosthetic Representatives, that are required to accomplish the mission of the Prosthetic Treatment Center. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Prosthetic Clerk/PD08235A Physical Requirements: The work is somewhat sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there is some physical exertion such as walking, standing, bending, crouching, stooping, and reaching, as incumbent is regularly involved in stocking and retrieving prosthetic/orthotic items.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/29/2023. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:;Thorough knowledge of Prosthetic/orthotic processes, rules and regulations on eligibility and entitlements; Receive and direct calls and visitors; Determine visitor's eligibility and entitlement for the medical items and or services; Assists visitors with the completion of forms or documents necessary to obtain medial items and or services; Utilizing complex technical computer systems of records to obtain patient medical information, appointment scheduling, determine medical benefits, etc. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four full academic years of successfully completed education above the high school level. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education. For GS-5 level positions only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Clerical Customer Service Standards Computer Skills Interpersonal Effectiveness Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
