Duties
This position is a collateral duty assignment which provides support to the USCP and the Congressional community by providing honors at funerals and representing the Department at various official functions at the direction of the Chief of Police.The work requires strenuous activity to include standing for long periods of time in a ceremonial position, marching, and carrying a casket.As a member of the Ceremonial Unit, you will:Represent the Department in various functions to include funerals, high-profile events (e.g. Inaugurations, Congressional ceremonies, etc.), and graduation/award ceremonies. Perform ceremonial unit functions such as participation on The Color Team, Firing Party, marching, providing escorts, serving as body bearers, and other functions as required. Adhere to established ceremonial protocols for each type of event/function. Assist with law enforcement functions as required.Selected officers must successfully complete the Ceremonial Unit Training Program.Note: Multiple vacancies exist. The number of Ceremonial Unit positions will be determined by the needs of the Department. The selection list will be active for a period of one (1) year from the date of approval of the selection memorandum unless an applicant withdraws in writing his/her application to the Office of Human Resources (OHR).
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Must be a USCP Officer with the rank of Private With Training, Private First Class, or Technician. Must project a neat, well groomed, professional image, and maintain uniforms and grooming according to standards set forth by USCP Directives/SOPs. Must be able to maintain composure and have the ability to overcome stressful and challenging circumstances (e.g. standing in a ceremonial position for twenty minutes or more; perform in extreme heat or cold; participate in funerals; and adapt and adjust to unforeseen circumstances or situations such as changes in itinerary, space considerations, and changes in weather).Must be able to communicate, work well with others and follow the directions of the Ceremonial Unit Commander, the Officer in Charge (OIC), or designee. Must be available to work flexible and/or additional hours on short notice. RETENTION CRITERIA Failure to comply with any of the following retention factors will be grounds for removal from the Ceremonial Unit. Must successfully complete the USCP Ceremonial Unit Training Program and complete a one (1) year probationary period beginning the date of completing the training. Must maintain proper care of the ceremonial uniform and abide by the Department's standards on uniforms and grooming. Must abide by the protocols of the Ceremonial Unit. Must be available to work flexible and/or additional hours on short notice. Must be able to travel outside the Washington metropolitan area as required.

There is no education substitute for experience in this series and/or grade.
