About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. We provide worldwide on-site maintenance services, aircraft crash analysis, lubricating oil analysis, and chemical, metallurgical and training support.

Duties

Provide technical services in connection with the planning, development, establishment and monitoring of various process shop procedures. Determine the impact of new and rapidly changing process and chemical technology and evaluation changes necessary to constantly meet state-of-the-art technology requirements for a full range of variety chemicals and complex chemical processes. Organize and conduct investigations and research necessary to establish methods of completing other performance requirements such as acceptance tests, safety and environmental control. Provide chemical technical expertise during investigation of in-house component failures and Quality Deficiency Requests.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirements for Chemistry, Series 1320: A. Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: GS-09 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) Determine applicable methods, procedures and apply to project or studies; (2) Knowledge of chemistry, laboratory wet analysis, instrumental analysis, mathematics through differential and integral calculus; and (3) Ability to use operation of instruments, method development; able to follow techniques, work orders, hazardous waste procedures, Shop Operating Procedures and laboratory procedures. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have two years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a field directly related to the position to be filled. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). GS-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) Experience demonstrating chemical and physical principles, concepts, and practices pertaining to the chemical and material processes used to overhaul and maintain rotary wing aircraft components/equipment; (2) Experience evaluating aspects of the methodology development phase in the overhaul and maintenance of rotary wing aircraft components and equipment; and (3) Experience developing and modifying methods involving materials and instruments used to perform analysis of problems and determining needs for improvement, reducing chemical process problems leading to defective parts or work stoppages, and assisting in the investigation or production/process problems. OR EDUCATION: Applicant must have three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field directly related to the position to be filled. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09). GS-12 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes: (1) Experience in providing technical services in connection with the planning, development, establishment and monitoring of various process shop procedures; (2) Experience in Industrial processes and/or operations for which work requirements are established including, but not limited to cleaning, plating, metal surface preparation of aircraft parts and components, bonding of various materials, paint stripping, preparation of the surface prior to welding or heat treatment, processing of anti-friction bearings, painting, and electroless nickel, chromium, cadmium and silver electroplating and a wide variety of other specialized coating processes; and (3) Experience in planning, organizing, and conducting investigations and research in the development of local process specifications and work requirements for the full range of a variety of chemicals and complex chemical processes used or required in the overhaul, repair, maintenance, and/or modification of rotary wing aircraft, aircraft power plants, components, parts, and accessories. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
