The Maintenance Supervisor serves as the Environmental Mechanics Supervisor covering the following trades: Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration (HVACR), Machining, Pipefitting, Plumbing and Building Automation Systems (BAS). This shop falls under the general supervision of the Maintenance Control Manager, Operations, Engineering Section at the Columbia VA Health Care System, its CBOCs and all other locations under its jurisdiction.
Duties
This position is covered under the AFGE bargaining unit.
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the planning, direction, control, coordination, operations, evaluation, schedules, and provides field technical advise and supervision of activities and staff responsibilities for the Environmental Mechanics Shop. Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Train, motivate, and direct the EM Shop in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and troubleshooting of refrigeration, heating, ventilation, chillers and air conditioning equipment, VAV boxes, air handling equipment as well as all drains and piping for water, sanitary and storm water, steam and condensation.
Ensure all building service equipment (BSE) is accounted for, that appropriate PM schedules are assigned and the utility systems and associated equipment is in compliance with regulations, operation standards and able to meet medical center needs.
Acts as Contracting Officer Representative (COR) over numerous major high-cost contracts assigned to the maintenance and operations section.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm

EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work progress, inspections, and supervision require regular and recurring physical exertion involving walking, standing, bending, climbing, etc. The incumbent must be able to climb and work from ladders. Management and administrative work are performed in a sedentary office environment. Must have good vision, with glasses or contacts acceptable.
Working Conditions: must be capable of supervising and performing work that is performed outside in inclement weather or in areas that are very hot, cold or unventilated; such as catwalks, crawlspaces and mechanic al rooms. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, electrical shock, and other hazards normally encountered in facility maintenance, repairs and operation. Safety procedures must be followed, and appropriate protective safety gear and personal protective equipment must be worn, as required for the specific work area or task. Incumbent shall ensure all employees wear personal protective equipment as required by the particular situation.
Driver's License: The incumbent must have a current, valid driver's license.
EPA Certification: In accordance with 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F, EPA, people working in this type of position must have and maintain proper EPA Certifications for working with refrigerants. You must have these EPA Certification Types I, II and III in order to meet the requirements of this position.
