About the Position: This position is a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic with the 407th Logistic Readiness Center, Maintenance Division, Ground Maintenance Branch-Combat Vehicle Section located at Fort Cavazos, Texas.

Duties

Perform the full range of General Support (GS) maintenance and repair of complex Military, Commercial equipment and a variety of heavy construction equipment and vehicles. Troubleshoot to diagnose malfunctions that effects the full range of systems and components repairs on transmission, electro-hydraulic mechanisms, fuel injection systems and pneumatic systems. Repair of a variety of industrial, heavy construction equipment and vehicles powered by multi-fuel, gasoline or diesel engines. Perform electrical or gas welding to effect minor repairs or modifications to equipment often requiring substitution or rebuild of parts. Utilize a variety of power tools to fabricate and repair equipment requiring specific dimensions and specifications.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license and any installation and/or DoD license required for the type of equipment being operated or repaired.
• This positions requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain forklift training certification and licensure.

Items weighing in excess of 75 pounds are normally lifted by more than one person or moved with mechanical devices. Work involves prolonged standing on asphalt or concrete surfaces, stooping, work in confined spaces, and working in cramped or awkward positions. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a shop environment and frequently out of doors subject to adverse weather conditions. Work environment includes exposure to intermittent noise, dust and dirt, grease and oils, and use of chemical solvents. Posted safety hazards include eye, foot and hearing hazardous areas. Safety equipment to include safety toed shoes, face shields, protective aprons, gloves, safety glasses, ear plugs and hearing protective devices are issued for hazard abatement, required for use during each actual exposure to hazardous work conditions.
