You will serve as an Environmental Protection Specialist of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will advise on environmental compliance processes and equipment devices to mitigate and eliminate environmental impacts. You will conduct environmental inspection and acceptance of work based on compliance with contract provisions, codes, and regulations. You will disseminate updated information about environmental and hazard substances to managers and personnel. You will coordinate the preparation of requests to abate pollution sources to minimize or eliminate environmental liabilities. You will establish goals, objectives, or operating plans to maintain compliance with environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States drivers license.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes as necessary during field visits.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.

Qualifications

To be considered for GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Utilizing of one or more environmental compliance related fields such as National Environmental Policy Act/environmental planning; Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response to complete tasks/projects; 2) Reviewing environmental standards, specifications, and plans of projects and collaborating with planners and designers in order to ensure compliance with environmental requirements; 3) Conducting site investigations, audits, and surveys and collaborating with customers and other organizations to resolve environmental compliance concerns; 4) Participating in discussions with environmental regulatory agencies regarding interpretation and applicability of compliance requirements; and 5) Supporting development of and providing training to shop personnel and active duty and civilian customers regarding environmental compliance concerns and recommendations for continual improvement.
