Duties

This position is located in the Criminal Division, within the Economic Crimes Unit and will focus on COVID-19 fraud (PPP and EDIL) cases. The District of Oregon established one of the nation's first COVID-19 Benefits Fraud Working Groups in 2020 and has since become a national leader in prosecuting COVID-19 fraud cases. In this role the incumbent will (a) partner with federal law enforcement agents in structuring and implementing criminal investigative plans and strategies; (b) actively participate in the district's robust COVID fraud program and working groups; and (c) litigate complex COVID-19 fraud (PPP and EDIL) cases from start to finish with limited supervision. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Security Requirements: Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. In addition, continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof.   • You must be a United States Citizen or National.

  • J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.

  • Type of Position: This is a temporary position not-to-exceed 3 years. This position may be extended or made permanent without further competition.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) and have at least 1-year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: AUSAs should be capable of managing numerous ongoing matters; juggling court appearances, depositions and deadlines for discovery and pleadings in a collegial, supportive environment. Applicants should have experience appearing in court, arbitrations, and/or depositions. Applicant should possess superior research and writing abilities, with the ability to prepare high-quality, persuasive pleadings. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
