The Environmental Care Specialist serves as the Site Manager for Environmental Management Services (EMS) at the Nashville Campus. The incumbent provides guidance, experience and on-the-job training in the various areas of EMS. The incumbent is responsible for the planning, coordinating and directing of work for all Housekeeping Aid Supervisors as well as the daily operations of the Ancillary Support and Waste Management Programs.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/02/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
In addition to meeting the time-in-grade requirement, applicants must meet one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at the GS-9 grade level, equivalent, or higher. Specialized experience is defined as working as an environmental services supervisor, housekeeping manager or having supervised other work which would provide a comprehensive knowledge of various housekeeping programs such as sanitation procedures, textile linen operations, pest control, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission (JC), American Hospital Association (AHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) laws pertaining to environmental management, policies, directives, and procedures, and methods for enforcing them. Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week to receive proper evaluation.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-11level. Ph.D. or at least 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL. M. degree if related to the health system management. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time graduate study is defined as 18 semester hours. (Unofficial transcripts MUST be submitted with the application package reflecting the degree as conferred).

COMBINATION OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Applicants may combine specialized experience and related graduate education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of the position and fully qualifying at the GS-11 grade level. If you qualify with a combination, your experience must be documented in your application/resume and transcripts are required. NOTE: Only education in excess of 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education may be used to qualify at the grade 11 level. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Incumbent walks throughout the medical center. Will be trained in all aspects of Environmental Management Service which requires stooping, bending, walking, lifting, twisting. Occasional travel will be required.
