The Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (IR) is located at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and is responsible for all activities of the Interventional Radiology (IR) sections of the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center, Medical Imaging Service. In the performance of official duties, the Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (IR), serves as the primary supervisor for the Interventional Radiology section.
Duties
Responsible for the orderly flow of patients throughout this section. This includes reviewing for prompt scheduling of patients by the nursing staff assigned and being thoroughly knowledgeable of all protocols to answer inquiries from physicians, staff radiologists, IR technologists, staff radiologic technologists, nurses and other personnel regarding all aspects of IR imaging.
Oversee that patients will be scheduled in the most expeditious manner possible.
Takes corrective action as necessary to address deficiencies of individuals and to accept or reject work which may have had a lower-level review.
Ensure that employees are kept informed of management goals and objectives and keeps immediate supervisor informed of employees' participation and concerns.
Develop training plans for subordinates, provides cross-training when appropriate, and recommends employees for formal training.
Participate in the Performance Based Interview process for selection of new employees when there are vacancies.
Prepare formal requests and recommendations for promotions, reassignments, other status changes and recognition of highly satisfactory or outstanding performance.
Receive formal grievances and resolves those within delegated authority. Implements disciplinary action as deemed necessary and proposes to immediate supervisor a specific disciplinary action consistent with the problem and facts.
Develops training plans for subordinates, provides cross-training when appropriate, and recommends employees for formal training.
Prepares drafts of recommended changes to current operating policies and procedures.
Maintains a section quality control program in accordance with medical center and regulatory policies.
Manages the quality control assurance programs within the IR section, including any maintenance or calibrations of the IR systems performed by Bio-med.
IR supervisor serves as a liaison with all levels of management pertaining to the IR section and executes actions which will guarantee quality image results and procedural support.
Monitors technologists' performance and attendance and instructs and reviews all IR technologists' imaging results to ensure that the highest quality diagnostic images are generated.
Manages the staff IR Technologists of the Medical Imaging Service and is responsible for assignment schedule, work area, and quality control.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency: Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist's must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.
Education: Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration (or the equivalent) in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) or from [other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education (DOE).]
Certification: All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent [can operate independently] and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates.
Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist GS-12
Experience: At least one year of the following types of experience comparable to the next lower grade level that fully meets the KSAs at that level.
Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist. Assignment to this grade level is restricted to those serving as the chief radiologic technologist at medical facilities with comprehensive and complex radiographic and imaging programs. Employees in these assignments plan and direct the radiologic technology program at active, affiliated medical centers with critical care and emergent inpatient services, and have full supervisory responsibility for a large staff of subordinate personnel, including GS-10 DRTs, at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor at the next lower grade level, and may include clerical or administrative support staff. At this level, the radiologic technology program typically includes the full variety of comprehensive and complex modalities. The candidate must demonstrate all of the following technical KSAs:
1. *Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties, including responsibility for assignment of work performed; performance evaluations; recommendations for appointments, awards, advancements, and, when appropriate, disciplinary actions; and identification of continuing education and training needs.
2. [Ability] to serve as a consultant to other facility personnel in evaluating and planning radiologic technology services for the most complex cases.
3. *Ability to participate in research studies and/or as a consultant to others conducting research.
4. *Ability to consult with staff and resident physicians through patient presentation, attending ward rounds, and specialty clinics and/or conferences, etc.
5. *[Ability] to assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of radiologic technology services at the facility.
