This position is located within Environmental Management Services at the West Palm Beach VA Health Care System. The primary purpose of this position is to mend and maintain textile products and employee uniforms; to include customer service with inventory management of these products.

Duties

Some of the duties and responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to): Makes decisions on what linen and uniform items need repair or need to be salvaged out, maintains records of all items that are salvaged; Issues, alters, repairs and replaces uniforms and scrubs, as needed; Maintains an up-to-date inventory of items issued and on hand, on the computer system and provides written requests for uniforms, scrubs, lab coats, etc. when needed; Utilizes responsibility for the majority of the mending, for the specialty sewing projects and for maintaining proper inventory levels; Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Work is usually completed while standing or sitting and may be for extended periods of time. Considerable amount of stooping, bending, or kneeling is necessary as well as working in cramped areas, uncomfortable positions and on ladders and scaffolds. Continually uses arms, hands, and fingers to sew, pull and position materials, and to use tools such as shears and electric knives. Sits for long periods while operating sewing machines and doing hand sewing. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 30 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items with assistance. Work is primarily in adequately heated, lighted, and ventilated shops. These areas may be noisy because of the numerous machines operating at the same time. The incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, punctures, and abrasions from handling sharp tools. Dust and lint from fabrics and fumes and odors from glues, preservatives, and cleaners may be present Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
