This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. The incumbent serves as an Archives Technician and works under the supervision of a supervisor or higher-graded technician experienced in the tasks associated with the position. The incumbent performs various duties related to the delivery, transfer, reference, and accessioning or disposition of records, and provides assistance to agency customers.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-05. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Perform standard record management activities in support of agency record management needs.
Provide reference service for records in various filing systems and refile or interfile records in various filing systems.
Perform various duties related to the acceptance of incoming transfers of Federal records.
Transcribe information found and prepare material for transmittal to the requesting agency or individual.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Operating office automation programs for maintaining database information; AND
Reviewing files or documents for completeness and compliance with established guidelines; AND
Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
For the GS-04 grade level, you must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
2 years of education above high school.
OR
Combination of general experience and education.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-05, you must have been at the GS-04level for 52 weeks.
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
