About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Pathology at Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH), Fort Carson, CO. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Perform phlebotomy procedures such venipuncture and puncture, determine type of specimen to be collected. Collects or receives blood tube specimens for HIV testing. Obtains patient’s information regarding medication history. Obtains venous and capillary blood specimens from adults, children, and infants using knowledge of human anatomy, aseptic technique, and phlebotomy material selection (i.e. vacutainer, syringe, butterfly, and lancet). Prepares sample for shipment by centrifuging sample and separating serum and subsequently transfer the serum sample to the properly labeled (coded) shipping tubes to be sent to contract testing labs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require contact with children.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • Applicants tentatively selected for appointment to this position will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position has been designated as a Drug Testing Designated Position and is subject to a pre-employment screening and random testing thereafter.
  • A pre-appointment physical is required.
  • This position requires the ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position requires rotating shifts, which may include evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) Training and certification sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced certification (e.g., Advanced Life Support) does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A successful completion of Prime Source Verification may be required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience performing blood collection on patients AND performing receptionist/administrative duties such as receiving patients and/or phone calls, maintaining patients files OR utilizing office and/or clinical automation systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if you meet the definitions below: Education Substitution: Successfully completed a four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts) License/Certification: Phlebotomy certification preferred but not required

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
