This position is located within the Grounds and Transportation Section of the Facility Management Service at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV. The Motor Vehicle Operator operates and performs operator maintenance on a 42 passenger motor coach that exceeds 32,000lbs gross vehicle weight.
Duties
Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Transports patients to all outings requiring the use of motor coach;
Loads and unloads wheelchair passengers using an electric wheelchair lift;
Assists passengers with special needs, on and off of the motor coach;
Operates buses, sedans, station wagons, ambulance, passenger vans and pickup trucks;
Transports sick, injured or convalescent patients and is responsible for their comfort and safe conduct to destination;
Loads and unloads the vehicle of equipment and ambulatory or wheelchair patients;
Performs messenger tasks and parcel pickup and carries funds for purchase of items or drugs;
Performs grass cutting, snow removal, road clean-up and general labor duties when not operating vehicles;
Keeps the vehicle clean inside and out and checks and tops fuel levels prior to departures and upon returning;
Selects the safest, most direct and legally allowed route to be followed and identifies alternative routes which may be used if emergency situations arise;
Operates motor coach vehicle on interstate highways, winding roads and steep grades; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 7:30am to 4:00pm

DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION: Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Light physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning, or moving arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls of motor vehicles. Exerts moderate physical efforts in the frequent handling of passengers when loading and unloading. The person in this position exerts considerably physical effort to change tires and make emergency repairs, such as installing an emergency fan belt or replace an electric fuse on open highways.
The person in this position is exposed to dirt and fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, broken bones or even loss of a life as a result of accidents while driving. Operates motor coach vehicle in all types of traffic and weather. Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. The person in this position is required to work outside and is occasionally exposed to bad weather conditions.

COMMERCIAL DRIVER"S LICENSE (SCREEN OUT): A current andvalid state-issued Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement is required for this position. NOTE: We cannot accept photographs, therefore; please do not submit a copy of your Commercial Driver's License with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current and valid state-issued Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement.
