The Transportation Assistant serves the Travel Office, Health Administration Services, VA Medical Center, Mid-Atlantic Health, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, Richmond, VA.
Duties

Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
Maintains communications with receiving facilities regarding beneficiaries return travel arrangements.
Reviews requests for reimbursement 9f travel costs for the purpose of assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency, and agreement with basic authorization.
Reconciles vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certification for payments.
Manages balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.
Prepares daily expenditure reports.
Manages activities for beneficiary travel control points.
Determines legal entitlement to travel reimbursement, applies deductible requirements and computes amount to be paid to beneficiaries.
Maintains a master control of deductibles met for each month on every patient that visits facility.
Authorizes or denies reimbursement accordingly.
Process requests for travel reimbursement utilizing various media to determine service connection abilities, hardship qualification, appointment verification at local and outside facilities, proof of address, and other criteria.
Serves as record keeper and coordinator of patient funds on deposit.
Maintains accounting records and control log.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.

SPECIALIZED EXPEREINCE GS-6: Having one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in Federal service. Qualifying specialized experience includes having knowledge or skills in eligibility rules and regulations is required in order to provide individuals with a comprehensive understanding of their entitlements to the Beneficiary Travel Program; comprehension and application of an extensive body of transportation regulations, methods and practices to perform a wide variety of interrelated or nonstandard transportation support assignments and resolve a wide range of problems; ability to organize and maintain documentation and records supporting beneficiary travel reimbursements and vendors payments; validation, control and maintaining accounting records for many travel accounts and make frequent dollar amount adjustments of those accounts; ensures compliance with procedures for obligating travel funds; reviews process to make determination on bills, and if the request for payment is legitimate or not; having a thorough understanding of medical terminology, regulations and manuals related to the administration.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates.
