You will serve as a CRANE OPERATOR in the CRANE AND RIGGING DIVISON, TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will operate multiple types of hydraulic boom cranes with telescoping and lattice booms to load, unload, move and position heavy material and equipment at various work sites under the following conditions.
You will operate floating cranes, lattice and hydraulic boom cranes, and cranes of different categories (CAT 1, 2, 3, and 4) to direct the placement, removal, or repositioning of machinery, heavy equipment, hazardous materials, or other loads.
You will assure safety requirements and housekeeping rules are followed and that personal protective equipment is properly used.
You will makes decision related to critical clearance requirements including recognition of dangerous load situations.
You will cross train in other positions, perform other related duties as assigned, and provide training/guidance to lower graded Crane Operators as required.
You will judge capacity of equipment and make lifts in the correct manner to maintain the balance of load and equipment.
You will perform crane operations requiring precision setting of items where small/close tolerances are allowed, and expensive mechanical parts can be damaged.
You will perform duties involving the proper handling, containment and disposal of hazardous materials (e.g, paints, solvents, etc.)

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current California Class "A/B" Commerical Driver's license.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana). A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to successful completion all required Navy Crane Center (NCC) courses.
- You must be capable of qualifying for AMHAS certification for handling ammunition.
- You must successfully complete the 40-hour crane safety course and an 8-hour refresher course every two years.
- This position requires rotating shift work; you may be required to work overtime, shift work or call back.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: I have the ability to perform common tasks including 1) Assisting in operating boom cranes to load, unload, move and position materials with restricted maneuver capabilities requiring critical accuracy; 2) Apply operator's maintenance, inspections, and reporting information; and 3) Using hand, radio or other approved types of signals for crane operations.
