About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

Duties

Review plans and specifications to become familiar with assignments. Inspect all material and equipment delivered to the construction site to ensure that specifications are met. Observe work and work methods to ensure that the structure is being built in accordance with the plan through use of acceptable work practices. Notify the contractor of construction violations. Attend pre-construction conferences with Contracting Officer, designers and the contractor to establish standards of work performance. Observe and investigate construction to identify and report potential problems and recommend changes to the designer. Review finished work, ensure all terms of the contract have been complied with and prepare final reports.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Government Motor Vehicle Operators (OF 346) Identification Card while occupying this position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to wear and/or use appropriate personal protective equipment and gear.
