You will serve as a HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT (MILITARY/OA) in the Manpower and Personnel Division of BUREAU OF MEDICINE AND SURGERY.

Duties

You will prepare pay documents (e.g., allotments, leave forms, pay option forms, Thrift Savings Plan [TSP] forms, etc.) for accurate processing You will respond to inquiries regarding pay regulations You will review personnel documents or correspondence for grammatical and spelling errors You will resolve personnel pay issues to ensure employees receive correct pay entitlements You will enter payroll data into human resources information systems (e.g., Total Workforce Management System [TWMS], Defense Civilian Personnel Data System [DCPDS], or similar system)

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience creating and maintaining files in accordance with organization policies, procedures, rules and regulations Experience utilizing human resources automated systems to research information in reference to personnel records and databases Experience researching and compiling data to provide appropriate responses to inquiries Experience providing technical information, guidance and assistance to personnel regarding policies and procedures Experience processing gains and losses, tracking and reporting gains and losses and other associated manpower tasks Experience receiving applications, making travel arrangements, pay arrangements, and ensuring service credit for retirement purposes. This position requires the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
