About the Position: Fort Novosel is the Home of Army Aviation and is located in the southeast Alabama area known as the Wire grass; much of the main post is in Dale County. Offering some of the best beaches in the world, is within driving distance. The US Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory (USAARL) is a tenant activity of the US Army Garrison, Fort Novosel and includes the US Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE) and the Army Combat Readiness Center (CRC).

Duties

Catalog materials and build collection databases. Establish, organize, maintain, and manipulate electronic online databases and content using specialized software to provide bibliographic search retrieval information. Implement contracts for online services to cover periodical subscriptions, monograph acquisition, interlibrary loan services, and data access. Maintain library records, archival/historical records/materials, metrics, inventory, and internal controls to achieve inspection readiness IAW Army Regulation. Provide medical and scientific library reference services.

Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree. -OR- B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Research specialized information sources of published and unpublished materials including a wide variety of electronic databases; 2) Organize electronic and print knowledge-based information in a medical and scientific library; 3) Manage contract library services and build requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service DJ-2 (GS-09). -OR- Education: 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Database Management SystemsInformation Technology Research and DevelopmentManages and Organizes InformationTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent DJ-2 (GS-09).
