About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Operate railroad equipment to align, space, and surface straight and curved tracks. Identify common defects on railroad such as broken rail, crushed head, broken base, defective tie, loose spikes, or uniform ballast for repair. Use proper storage requirements of materials, tools, or equipment in accordance with instructions. Identify equipment safety discrepancies such as malfunctioning equipment or damaged materials for corrective action. Remove spikes to drive maintenance vehicles. Perform routine maintenance on maintenance vehicles.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position will require the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Personnel Background Investigation (NACI).
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Railroad Maintenance Vehicle Operator (Direct Hire Authority) without more than normal supervision performing railroad track maintenance inspections for defects, conducting minor troubleshooting, and operating railroad equipment to align, space, and surface straight and curved tracks. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Performs work while subject to machine or equipment movement which may include jolting, jarring, rocking, swaying, lifting, lowering and vibrating movements. Required to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed in open cabs, or operator platforms, or equipment seats and/or outside. Operator is exposed to a wide range of weather and temperature conditions; high noise levels, fumes and odors from fuel, exhaust, lubricants and creosote, vibration and jolting from equipment operation. May frequently be required to work in bad weather or under other adverse or emergency conditions.
