About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties
Operate railroad equipment align, space, and surface straight and curved tracks.
Identify common defects on railroad such as broken rail, crushed head, broken base, defective tie, loose spikes, or uniform ballast for repair.
Use proper storage requirements of materials, tools or equipment in accordance with instructions.
Identify equipment safety discrepancies, such as malfunctioning equipment or damaged materials for corrective action.
Remove spikes to drive maintenance vehicles.
Perform routine maintenance on maintenance vehicles.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position will require the incumbent to be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- Temporary promotion may be made or extended up to a maximum of five years.
- Temporary appointment may be extended in one year increments up to a maximum of three years.
- Temporary reassignment may be made or extended at management discretion.
- Position may be converted to permanent without further competition.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Railroad Maintenance Vehicle Operator without more than normal supervision operating railroad equipment to align, space, and surface straight and curved tracks, loading supplies or equipment to be used in the repair or maintenance of railroads, and performing railroad track maintenance inspections for defects. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Position requires continuous physical effort in manipulating equipment controls with hands and feet and stretching and moving to maintain vision, observe work being accomplished, and to ensure that machinery is being operated properly. Performs work while subject to machine or equipment movement which may include jolting, jarring, rocking, swaying, lifting, lowering and vibrating movements. Required to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in open cabs, or operator platforms, or equipment seats and/or outside. Operator is exposed to a wide range of weather and temperature conditions; high noise levels, fumes and odors from fuel, exhaust, lubricants and creosote, vibration and jolting from equipment operation. May frequently be required to work in bad weather or under other adverse or emergency conditions.
