Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing a variety of victim and witness support functions in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Idaho. This position serves as the assistant to the Victim Witness Unit, responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and administrative support services. Duties include, but are not limited to: Responding to victim inquiries, assessing concerns, and determining program eligibility for victim-witness services; Assisting in developing and maintaining resource materials that identify available counseling and programs; Maintaining a detailed calendar of active victim cases, hearings and victim witness activities; Providing information to victims on schedule changes, status of defendant's pleas, trial results, etc.; Establishing and maintaining general and victim witness files; Maintaining the Victim Notification System (VNS) and producing reports; Preparing VNS notification letters and assembling victim impact statements and restitution documents; Coordinating/arranging lodging and preparing forms and instruction packets for traveler; and Processing Fact Witness Payment Vouchers for payment and reimbursement of expenses. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-8: To qualify at the GS-8, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7. Specialized experience is defined as advocating on behalf of victims; providing general information to victims and witnesses regarding status of case, court proceedings, and travel; screening calls/mail based on knowledge of victim witness policies; and obtaining services and assistance for victims. Specialized experience must demonstrate a general knowledge and understanding of victim witness laws and regulations. To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
